About The Margins

The Margins is a blog about the things that happen in the spaces between our plans. It is written by Maya Chen, a designer and writer based in the Pacific Northwest.

The essays here explore design, creativity, travel, and the quiet art of paying attention. They are not hot takes, listicles, or productivity hacks. They are attempts to slow down and look at things long enough to see them clearly.

The name comes from a belief that the most interesting things in any field—design, writing, life—happen not in the center but at the edges. In the margins. In the whitespace. In the moments we did not schedule.
